Best Washing Machine Brands in India

1. LG

LG is a household name when it comes to washing machines, which is why they have been voted as the most trusted brand in washing machines in 2022. They bring the latest developments and innovations right to your fabrics.

One such valuable technology is their six motion DD technology, which has six pre-programmed modes to wash your clothes, to suit their varied needs. Another excellent innovation is their Softmove technology, which assesses your fabrics’ personal needs, to wash them with care and make their pristine condition last longer.

LG also secured its position as the biggest, most popular player in the washing machine market, with the Inverter+ direct drive feature. While the inverter decides the speed based on the load in the machine, the direct drive means that the motor is directly attached to the drum without the use of any mechanical moving parts.

This results in a series of reduced mechanical parts letting out less energy, thereby cutting down electricity consumption. This combination does make the motor a bit bulkier, but it’s worth it, due to increased efficiency. The machines also produce less noise and have a better life.

2. Samsung

Widely regarded as one of the most reliable washing machine brands in the Indian market, Samsung’s washing machines are a class apart.

One of their best features is the diamond drum design. This design was introduced specifically to take gentle care of your fabrics. Their top loaders have this design, in which the holes are roughly 25% smaller, and are located within a diamond-shaped depression, to avert the clothes under the drum from sticking out and getting damaged.

IF you are looking to save your electricity consumption, Samsung brings you ceramic heaters. Their premium front loaders are equipped with this. The function of ceramic heaters is to prevent the build-up of the stubborn calcium compound. This calcium causes your bills to rise. Since they are hard to remove, you need a special detergent to clean them. You don’t have to worry about all that with Samsung!

Another feature in the multitude they offer is Volt Offer to safeguard the machine from fluctuations. With all the unpredictable power outages in India, you can safeguard your machine and increase their life, by using this technology. Premium front loaders possess this, which helps in stabilizing voltage fluctuations in the range of 25%.

3. Whirlpool

A premium brand that came into existence in 1911, this brand got India’s familiarity in the 1980s. Subsequently, with their customization options and wide variety, they have grown to be the world’s largest home appliance makers.

Top Load automatic washing machines from the brand, are equipped with Tumble Care technology. With the help of advanced sensors, the machine senses the laundry conditions and provides a distinct 360 tumble motion. Emulating the blooming of a flower, the machine does the laundry in multiple tumbles, ensuring thorough cleaning of the garment!

Have you faced daunting stains that never seem to fade, no matter what you do? Well, Whirlpool aims to get the job done for you, with their “Stainwash” technology. A patented technology that can remove 16 different types of stains in a 6-step process, this feature combines chemical, mechanical and thermal action for that perfect wash.

If you are wondering how this is done, the washing machine gradually increases the temperature at each wash. Oily stains come off at 55 C, but protein stains are removed at 35 C.

4. Bosch

Bosch is a European brand that made its entry into the Indian market as early as 1922. The brand is more than a century old, and that speaks for its experience in the washing machine market. But they only offer front loader machines now, so give them a skip if you are looking for top loaders.

Fun-fact: Siemens is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bosch. While Siemens caters to the urban market, Bosch has 3 ranges of washing machines, tailored for the different segments-customers looking for good quality products at an affordable price, mid-range customers, and the premium price tag.

Coming to the technologies, Variodrum ranks high. This feature essentially brings a difference to your cleaning. When the drum spins in one direction, the flat side of the paddles attached cleans the clothes, and when it moves the other side, the steep side of the paddle, which has a wave- droplet design, cleans it deeply.

To contribute to sustainability, Bosch has a top-notch feature called “EcoPerfect.” This option uses 66% lesser energy than the average washing machines, and guess what! This feature is available in all models of Bosch!

5. IFB

A market with a four-decade experience, occupying over 40% of the washing machine market in the front loader segment? Checks all the boxes, doesn’t it? IFB is a niche brand, but a premium one nevertheless.

Smartphones, Smart Tvs.. why not smart washing machines? IFB thought this and brought out its Smart Loaders. They discern every near-invisible speck of dirt in your laundry load and alter the cleaning accordingly. And the result is a perfect clean. And the best part? It comes with 4 years of warranty, and 10 years of spare parts support!

Hard water is a common problem in India. Not only is it difficult to dissolve detergent in hard water, but the sediments also get stuck firmly in the drum and the supply pipe, reducing the life of the machine.

IFB’s Aqua Energie technology solves this. These models come with a built-in aqua filter, that breaks down the bicarbonates in the hard water, into tiny, fine crystals. Since they are small, they easily get removed in the flow of the water. This safeguards the machine and makes the detergent work better.

Their top loaders also have a “Triadic Pulsator”, which equips the machine with soft scrub pads for gentle removal of stains. Then, a powerful swirl 3D jet of water is activated, dislodging all the dirt from the fabric.

The Buyer’s Guide

Don’t know the things you should consider when buying a washing machine? Don’t worry this comprehensive guide will educate you about all the aspects you should consider!

Now that we have looked at the specifications of each brand and product, let us now look at the broad picture. Washing machines are a household staple, and a few days without them makes our lives significantly more difficult. Hence, it is important that while choosing our washing machine, we are sufficiently educated about all the how’s and the why’s. Let us dive deep into the nerdy aspects of the washing machine.

Semi-Automatic vs Fully Automatic: The Difference

Types of Washing Machine

Semi-Automatic Washing Machines

Very common in developing countries, these are the most basic variants of washing machines. They contain two compartments, one each for washing and drying. One must manually move the clothes from the washing compartment to the drying compartment once the wash is complete.

Semi-automatic machines require manual intervention at every step.

They are not ideal for people who seek to dump clothes into the washer and forget about them. It requires overwatch. The major positive of this type of washing machine is its competitive pricing. It is rather inexpensive and the cost of most models ranges from 6000 to 12000 rupees.

1. How A Semi-Automatic Washing Machine Work?

Water is added manually to the wash compartment through a hose or sometimes even through a bucket. The machine has no overflow protection and the user must be careful to close the hose when the wash compartment is full. After adding detergent and setting wash time, the machine is allowed to wash the clothes.

After the wash is complete the user must drain the dirty water and manually refill the compartment once again and set the machine on rinse mode. After the rinse, drain water from the wash compartment and transfer the wet clothes to the drying compartment and start the machine.

2. Advantages of Semi-Automatic Washing Machine

  • Energy efficiency: Like a lot of the draining and transferring is done manually, semiautomatic machines are very energy efficient.
  • Efficient use of water: As water is filled manually, the user can avoid wastage and pour only the requisite amount.
  • No need for continuous water supply: Automatic machines need a constant water supply. In areas that lack a 24×7 water supply, semi-automatic machines save a lot of water and are useful alternatives.
  • Adaptability: Extra clothes can be added after the start of the washing cycle. Also, water used for rinsing a particular set of clothes can be used to wash the next set.

3. Disadvantages of Semi-Automatic Washing Machine

  • Needs manual effort: Filling the wash compartments for washing and rinsing in addition to transferring clothes from one compartment to the other involves a lot of manual labor.
  • Electric Hazards: The wet nature of the product in addition to the extended amount of direct manual involvement required makes it an electrical hazard. Extra care must be taken to unplug the washing machine while moving clothes from one compartment to the other.
Semi-Automatic MachinesFully Automatic Machines
Manual effort requiredNo manual effort required
Clothes need to be moved from one compartment to the otherWashing, rinsing, and drying is automated
Some stains may remain after washingNo stains after wash
Manual scrubbing may  be requiredNo scrubbing required

Fully Automatic Washing Machines

Fully automatic machines, as the name suggests, are completely automatic and require only nominal manual effort. They have a singular compartment which is used for both washing and drying. All one needs to do is dump dirty clothes into the machine and start it. There is no need to pour water for washing, and again for rinsing or for moving clothes from one compartment to the other.

1. Advantages of Fully Automatic Washing Machine

  • No manual work involved: The consumer can relax and go about other business without fretting over the washing machine. The machine automatically fills up with water and drains itself while also shutting down on its own once the process is complete.

2. Disadvantages of Fully Automatic Washing Machine

  • A continuous water supply is required.
  • High electricity consumption.
  • Noisy and can get very loud.
  • They are much costlier than semi-automatic machines.

How to Use A Washing Machine?

Offering the user a great amount of choice and control, the washing machine program is a well-controlled, impeccable sequenced piece of programming. All the parts of the washing machine are controlled electrically, the drum, the valves, the pump, and the heating element alike. Think of the programmer as your intelligent technician, choosing the right mode, and switching things on or off in the perfect sequence.

The Sequence of Washing Clothes:

  • You load the clothes into the machine, add detergent in the allotted slot or into the machine itself.
  • You select your preferred program and start it off.
  • The programmer now steps in, to take care of all the important functions. It first opens the water valves to let in hot and cold water and fills up the outer and inner drums.
  • The incoming water enters at the top and comes down through the detergent tray, thus bringing the soap there into the machine effectively.
  • Once the tubs are filled, the program switches the valves off, and the thermostat kicks in. If the water is not hot enough, the program switches on the heating element, which works much like a kettle, heating the water to the desired temperature.
  • Once the water is sufficiently heated, the program switches the heating element off and calls the inner drum to report for duty. The drum rotates back and forth, sloshing and pushing your clothes in the soapy water.
  • The detergent, thoroughly mixed in the water, pulls the dirt away from your clothes and holds it in the water. With this, the washing is complete.
  • Now the program steps in again, opening a valve so that the water gets drained from both the drums. The electrical pump is also switched on to aid this process.
  • To begin rinsing, the programmer once again opens the clean water valves, making water enter the drums.
  • The inner drum once again rotates your clothes through the machine, and the fabrics are thoroughly rinsed in clean water.
  • This process is repeated several times – clothes are rinsed, dirty water goes out, clean water comes in, until the clothes are clean enough, and all the soap is gotten rid of.

When the clothes are getting rinsed, what essentially happens is that the inner drum is made to rotate at a very high speed, about 80 mph. This causes the clothes to be thrown against the outer corner of the inner drum. The amount of water the clothes have is tiny enough to pass through the holes of the drum, into the outer drum. This separates the water from your clothes, causing them to dry faster.

The scientific principle behind spinning is the same as in a centrifuge. In simple terms, the centrifuge makes use of a force (centripetal force) that attacks the object (clothes in this case), knocking the water out of them, and making them turn, and go in a non-straight path. Centrifuges are used in everything, from washing machines to space centers!

Centrifuges in Machine

1. Why Do So Many Wash Programs Exist?

Put, each garment you feed into the machine needs to be washed differently, but the machine does not know what fabrics you load. You cannot accurately judge the temperature and speed that the fabric needs. So to make our lives easier, the machine provides us with a few pre-programmed options, suitable for our fabrics.

For instance, let us take wool. Wool is highly hygroscopic, which means that it absorbs huge amounts of water. It also loses its elasticity in higher temperatures. So, when a manufacturer designs a washing machine that washes wool, they take that as their primary consideration and prevent the wool from getting too hot so that the fibers don’t stretch and get degraded. They also make sure the fabric doesn’t get shoveled too much, as it won’t return to shape.

Contrast this with denim, and we can observe that denim requires a lot of agitation to take the grime and dirt off. Approaching in yet another way, fabrics such as denim get treated more roughly, while people generally treat cashmere and silk more carefully.

This is why it is best to have programs. The engineers guesstimate how much agitation each type of fabric will need, and determine the wash temperature, agitations, spins, and spin speeds.

But you’d have noticed that most washing machines offer an astounding number of combinations, and wonder if you need that many. Well, let us break down the four basic washes a machine can do-

  • High temperature, long duration- for your white clothes.
  • Faster, Lower temperature- for your coloured cotton.
  • Less Agitation, Slower spin, Lower temperature- for your synthetics
  • More water, less agitation, slow spins- for your woolen clothes.

All other programs are a combination of these four. So keep this key in mind, while selecting your program! If you are an engineering nerd and want to know the technicalities of each part of a washing machine, here’s everything you need to know!

2. Parts of A Washing Machine

Now, the concept of a washing machine is fairly simple. You load your clothes in, the machine then moves your clothes about in soapy water for a few minutes, and then it spins fast, to remove the water later.

But the actual execution is a little more complex. For starters, wouldn’t you be surprised if we told you that there is not one, but two drums in a washing machine? When the lid is opened, what you see is the inner drum of the machine. In front-loading machines, the lid faces forward, while in top loaders, the lid faces upwards.

In a front loader, when you load the clothes in, the drum rotates about a horizontal axis, a lot like a car wheel. This inner drum has a lot of holes, to let the water enter and exit. There are paddles installed around the edges, to move the clothes around the machine.

In a top loader, the drum is fixed atop a vertical axis, but this does not move. So, to move clothes around, a paddle called “Agitator” is installed.

Let us return to the mysterious second drum. This is something you cannot see when you open the lid of your washing machine. This is a watertight drum, with no holes, that is used to hold water while the inner drum or the agitator rotates. If this drum is faulty, you’d have water seeping outside.

1. Temperature Control

While the drums are the bare essentials and the most important parts of washing machines, there are other indispensable parts. The thermostat tests the temperature of the entering water, and if it is not suitable, the heating element warms it up to the needed temperature.

2. Pipes And Valves

To bring the water in and out of the machine, pipes and pumps are used. There is a pump that is operated electrically, which removes water from the drum after the wash is over. Additionally, there are two other pipes that let hot and cold water into the machine. Another third pipe lets the dirty, unwanted water out after the wash. All the pipes have valves on them, that are like little doors to open and close whenever necessary.

Pipes and Valves

3. Water inlet control valve

There is a water inlet control valve affixed near the top of the machine. Its opened automatically when you feed the clothes in the washing machine and closes when the requisite amount of water is reached. This is a solenoid valve, which means that it is a control unit, which when electrically energized or de-energized, shut off or allow fluid flow.

4. Water Pump/Pipe

The pump spreads the water throughout the washing machine. Think of it as the heart of the machine. It works in two ways-recirculating the water during the washing and later releasing the water during the spinning.

5. Tub

As previously mentioned, there exist two tubs, the inner tub, and outer drum. The outer drum covers the inner one, and stores the water, supporting the washing.

6. Agitator or Rotating Disc

The essential part of the washing machine, that does the actual cleaning. The agitator constantly rotates while washing, providing ripples within the water. This causes the clothes to move inside the tub. The detergent in the water helps to pull the dirt off the clothes, trapping it in the water.

The agitator does two things- scrubbing the clothes against one another, and with the water. Sometimes, instead of a long agitator, the manufacturers might fit a disc with blades on the top side. The disc performs the same functions, albeit by rotation, and the blades provide the currents that do the cleaning.

7. Motor

The motor of a washing machine is affixed to the agitator or the rotating disc. The motors provide various speeds, which can be changed as per the user’s requirement. In a fully automatic machine, however, the speed of the motor changes automatically, as per the laundry load in the machine.

8. Timer

If you are opting for a manual selection of the wash cycle, the timer helps that. In a fully automatic machine, this task is performed upon assessment of the number of clothes and type of wash cycle.

9. Printed Circuit Board (PCB)

PCB is the superstar of the consumer electronic world. It is used in almost every appliance. It comprises the electronic components and circuits which are programmed to perform in distinct ways, based on the amount and conditions of the laundry load. They sense the extrinsic factors and make decisions accordingly.

PCBs are also called fuzzy logic systems. The PCB in the washing machine could probably be considered the brain of the system, making decisions about the time and speed, after assessing the weight of the clothes, quantity of water, and the detergent required.

10. Drain Pipe

The drain pipe is responsible for removing unwanted water from the washing machine. The water left after the wash is let out by this pipe.

Front Loading vs Top Loading: The Difference

There are just too many different types and varieties of washing machines. Adding to your confusion, are the two broad categories of front-load and top-load. Which one should you choose? Let us look at these two types, in a technical manner.

1. Front Load Washing Machine: Wash Cycle

  • The outer drum is fixed, and the inner drum, with holes around the edges, are both fixed atop a horizontal axis.
  • The outer drum is fixed to the frame with the use of heavy-duty springs. So when the clothes are spun, causing the drum to shake violently, the springs absorb all the vibrations. They act as shock absorbers.
  • The hot and cold water enters the machine through the detergent tray which is located at the top.
  • The inner drum rotates fast. The paddles that are fixed inside help to move the clothes around, through the detergent, and the water held by the outer tub.
  • The electric motor turns the inner drum, through a long rubber belt.
  • The heating element heats the water to a suitable temperature.
  • The pump sucks and drains the water away once the wash cycle is completed.
  • The water is released via a tube to the drain.
Front Load Washing Machine

2. Top-Load Washing Machine: Wash Cycle

  • The clothes are loaded from above, and the lid is located at the top.
  • There are two tubs, similar to a front loading machine, but they are mounted on a vertical axis here.
  • The water enters through the pipes that are located at the top, bringing the detergent to the water.
  • During the wash cycle, the plastic agitator turns around, but the drums remain stationary throughout the process.
  • The agitator is powered by an electric motor through a rubber belt.
  • While the machine spins, the electric motor rotates the inner drum at high speed, throwing the water through the holes, into the outer drum.
  • The water is then drained out by the pump, per usual.
Top Load Washing Machine

While this is the technical side, what does it mean for a user? What model should you personally choose? While it depends on personal preference, and here is everything you need to think about and know, to make the perfect choice for you and your lifestyle.

1. Which is easier to use?

Top loaders get the score in this round, as they are more convenient. For older people or people with joint issues, top loaders provide the ideal height to load and unload clothes. But front loaders can be installed with laundry pedestals that raise the units.

With top loaders, you also get some other qualities, such as the option of adding clothes mid-cycle. If you have forgotten to add a sock, you can do so even right after the cycle has begun. The top loader washing machines also distribute fabric softeners much more evenly, as the water trickles down and spreads it across the tub.

2. Which costs less?

Front loading washing machines are generally more expensive. This is because they come with a host of features, such as energy-saving, and also give a better quality cleaning. So, when you look at the long run, the cost would even out, even if the immediate outflow for a front loading is greater than its top-loader counterpart.

3. Which cleans better?

Top loaders are notorious for being rough and brash with the clothes, especially since it is very easy to overload the machine. Front-loaders are extremely gentle with your clothes and ensure that your clothes have gotten a good soak.

Top loaders also do not wash big items like bedsheets and pillows quite well, as they don’t fully immerse in the water. So front- loaders are our pick when it comes to the quality of washing.

4. How much water does it use?

According to reports, front loaders use 40% less water than top-loading washing machines. This is quite a heavy number and can cut your water expense down a significant portion. The clothes also get good clean, as they are sufficiently immersed in water. A better cleaning for almost half the amount of water used is a winner in our books, so we declare front loaders as the winners in this round.

5. How much maintenance is needed?

Sadly, front-loading washing machines need a lot more maintenance than top-loading washing machines. This is because, in top loaders, the gravity pulls down water, along with all the impurities down, so it does not get trapped anywhere. But in front loaders, the water stagnates and mold builds up along the door’s rubber gasket. It requires to be cleaned every few days, gently, to have a long life. So if you lead a busy life, maybe front loaders can’t help you.

6. What is spin speed?

Front loading washing machines typically spin 33% faster than the top loaders. This results in a shorter duration of drying time. Unfortunately, this also means that there is greater noise as the drum vibrates.

7. How quick is the wash cycle?

Top loading washing machines are faster with washing clothes, owing to their agitator. The impeller or the rotating disc in the front loaders, while giving the clothes a better cleaning, also take longer for the wash cycle.

Different Wash Types (Washing Techniques)

1. FlexWash and TwinWash

FlexWash is an attempt to bridge the gap between front-loaded and top-loaded machines. Samsung has tried to combine the two and come up with a hybrid solution. Flexwash is a flexible alternative that provides both front and top-loaded functionalities in the same device.

It has a main front-loaded option with a load capacity of 20 kg which is in addition to a top loader with a capacity of 4 kg. The front loader is suited to heavy loads like blankets and quilts while the top loader is optimized for light and delicate loads like socks, handkerchiefs, and innerwear.

LG’s TwinWash is an attempt to provide more options to the consumer. TwinWash works on the concept of a dual load. Two separate drums are used with the main drum having a larger 20 kg capacity and the smaller drum utilized solely for delicate clothes.

2. EcoBubble and O2 wash

The focus on cleaning without causing any damage to the load is what led to the evolution of bubble technology. Samsung’s EcoBubble uses cold water to convert detergent into soap bubbles that penetrate dirty fabrics with ease and allow efficient cleaning of tough stains.

IFB’s O2 Wash works on a similar concept. The washer generates a large number of bubbles that remove tough stains by penetrating clothes with ease.

Motion DD and WaveMotion: The motion of the drum is essential to the cleaning process of a washing machine. Manufacturers have continuously tried to improve their motion systems and create more efficient machines.

LG’s 6 Motion DD technology seeks to optimize motion based on the fabrics in the load. LG’s premium range offers this 6 Motion technology which brings 6 different motions to the consumer:

  1. Tumble
  2. Stepping
  3. Scrubbing
  4. Swing
  5. Rolling
  6. Filtration
6 Motion DD Wash

Whirlpool uses its own SoftMove technology which uses specially designed sensors to identify the load in the drum and accordingly adjust the drum motion based on the type of fabric. The types of motion include:

  1. Energetic Wash
  2. Soft Cradle
  3. Power Shower
  4. Slow Motion

IFB’s latest offerings also provide a variety of motions like:

  1. Air bubble wash
  2. 360-degree wash
  3. Cradle wash
  4. O2 wash
  5. Steam Wash

The Latest Washing Machine Technologies

1. Improved Drum Technology

The design of the drums in washing machines and the topsy turvy nature of its motion jeopardizes tender laundry items. Manufacturing companies have been trying to avoid this dilemma.

Washine Machine Drum

Samsung with its latest products has introduced a Diamond Drum system that uses 25% smaller perforations. These holes are recessed deep within diamond-shaped abscesses thus protecting clothes from sticking out of the drum and getting damaged. An embossed washboard is present to reduce the possibility of fabrics getting trapped and thereafter harmed.

2. Soaking Technologies

Soaking your load before a wash improves the quality of the cleaning that the washing machine can provide and it is to this end that technologies like BubbleSoak are designed and employed.

Washing Machine Soaking

Samsung’s BubbleSoak focuses on grime removal by using bubbles to soak through clothes. The soft bubbles are gentle on the fabric and protect them from damage. Similarly, Whirlpool’s SuperSoak technology uses a combination of soaking in scrubbing to handle tougher stains.

3. Built-in Heaters

Manufacturers are focused to bring temperature control options to newer washing machines. Frontloaded machines from Samsung come with ceramic heaters that seek to avoid calcium compounds from building up. Ceramic heaters are quick to action heaters and exceptionally effective against calcium build up. They are also energy efficient.

Whirlpool is the sole manufacturer in the Indian market that provides heating capabilities for top loaded machines. The built-in heater ensures the removal of tough stains and can heat water up to 60 degrees Celsius.

4. Noise Reduction and Anti Vibration Technology

Washing machines are noisy appliances that can cause problems to consumers and thus manufacturers have been hard at work to control these vibrations and restrict noise levels.

Samsung leads the line up with its efforts to reduce noise from the washing machine through its Vibration Reduction Technology Plus, a useful new feature that keeps noise levels at a minimum and maintains washer balance throughout the wash cycle.

Bosch has designed a special AntiVIbration technology to minimize noise during the wash. It uses sensors that adjust the drum’s motion and maintain washer balance using special sensors.

5. Smart Control using Apps and Sensors

Washing Machine Smart Technology

With smartphones slowly evolving into our sole interface with the world of technology, washing machine manufacturers have kept up with the times and introduced smart solutions to problems of control and diagnosis.

NFC tags are now used in a number of washing machines, especially by LG, which allows tone transmission to the smartphone which then uses an application to decode the tone transmission and warn the user of any issue with the washing machine. With newer technology, the apps can even detect the exact issue by a detailed analysis of the transmissions.

Wifi-enabled machines are also available in the market that allows users to control their washers using their smartphones. Samsung’s Smart Control app allows a user to remotely control their machine. The user can find out the wash status, any mechanical issues, and the steps required to resolve such issues directly on his smartphone.

Things to Keep in Mind

How to Tackle Hard Water?

Most Indian cities face the problem of hard water. Besides being harmful to your health, hard water is also bad for washing machines. Residues from hard water can accumulate in white layers and eventually chose the drum and supply pipe. Hard water is also difficult to work with as detergent isn’t as easily dissolved in it. To tackle this multitude of hard water-related issues, manufacturers have come up with a host of solutions.

IFB has come up with the Aqua Energie technology which softens hard water. Models with this technology come with a specialized Aqua filter that dismantles the dissolved bicarbonates in hard water to finer crystals which are then easily removed from the flow. This prevents any scale formation on crucial parts of the machine and prolongs its life.

Whirlpool in its latest line up offers a hard water wash option which enables the machine to achieve better dirt cleansing despite the presence of hard water.

What are Auto-Dispensing Machines?

Many users find it difficult to make correct estimates of the amount of detergent required for a particular batch of clothes. Using too much detergent is not just wasteful but also increases water intake and makes the entire process a lot less efficient.

On the other hand, using far too little detergent can reduce washing performance and quality while also causing discoloration and unpleasant odor. To counter such problems, modern washing machine manufacturers have come up with a solution in the form of auto detergent dispensers.

Whirlpools latest automatic front-loaded machines come with an advanced auto detergent dosage functionality which when enabled correctly estimates the quantity of detergent that will be sufficient for the present load-dependent on the weight of the load and the degree to which the load needs cleaning.

Bosch in its latest Series 6 and Series 8 washing machines use the new iDOS technology which calculates the amount of detergent required based on the hardness of water and how soiled the load is.

What Innovations Have Made Machines More Efficient Than Before?

Manufacturers are constantly trying to develop newer and better technologies that can allow them to make better and more efficient machines. The result of this relentless pursuit is improved hardware and limitless options for the consumer.

Ordinary washing machines come with a fixed motor that achieves peak efficiency only when the load is full. Newer models with digital inverter technology help individual machines to sense the present load and run the motor at the requisite speed.

Samsung’s front-loaded machines come with the Digital Inverter technology which works on the same principle. The fabric load is sensed and motor speed is then adjusted accordingly to provide efficient performance.

Ordinary machines used to have a multitude of minor parts including gears and belts which connected motors to the drums. This mechanism created a lot of friction which made the products comparatively inefficient.

Newer models come with Direct Drive technology where the motor is connected directly to the drum with no mechanical moving parts involved. Fewer mechanical parts result in lesser friction and lower energy dissipation. This makes devices more efficient by cutting down massively on energy consumption.

Direct Drive Technology

If you are a person on the go, top loaders might be the ideal pick for you. They wash quicker and do not require much maintenance. They are also better if you cannot afford to make a slightly bigger investment.

If you are fine with longer wash cycles and appreciate the energy, and water consumption benefits, and the gentler handling of clothes, go for front-loading washing machines. You would also need to make a slightly bigger investment now, which will even itself out over time.
