The research work which was done by the United Nations Children Fund says that the mission, which was started by Modi has helped a lot to decrease the contamination of the groundwater.

The mission was started on the date of 2nd October 2014 which marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Their main motto was to start building toilets in the rural areas for the common masses with a fund of 1.96 lakh crore.

The research work was based on three states which are West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha. Groundwater samples were collected from those states’ villages and were sent to different water laboratories. According to the report, the waste is polluting the water 11.25 times than any other portions of the states. The waste which is poisonous is mixed with the water and contaminating the groundwater. It is very common over those villages.

Afterward, the study says that the water contamination was mainly done by Human wastes. It is 12.7 times more dangerous than regular wastes. Such villages have chances of soil contamination as well.

Rural areas also have a problem with drinking water. They have 1.48 times higher chances of food destruction. The study has also given the strategies of reducing the contamination levels by improving hygiene and sanitation practices.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who is the Union Minister of the Jal Shakti stated on the report that cleanliness should be the main motto for the health and future of the environment.

The clean Indian mission, which was published by WHO says that we should focus on leaning the environment which can save almost 3 lakh lives.

The study was done under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and  UNICEF. It was declared on the World Environment Day with support of Swacch Bharat Mission.
